We are currently accepting applications for our next Executive Director for Justice Democrats apply here.

A letter from our Outgoing Executive Director, Alexandra Rojas:

After deep reflection, I have decided to transition from Executive Director to President of our Board at the end of this primary cycle (so not for a while!). Though this means I would eventually no longer be in the day to day operations of the organization, I will continue to be an active board member around fundraising and especially supporting the new Executive Director.

So this is certainly not a goodbye! But getting ready for the next chapter of this work as the organization evolves – it’s time for me after almost 10 years here.

It has been and continues to be the honor of a lifetime to have helped build Justice Democrats these last 8 years and its mission of recruiting and electing everyday working-class people to champion the people’s agenda at the highest levels of government.

This is my political home and I am so profoundly grateful for the partnership, generosity, and the trust every JD supporter and partner has placed in our mission since 2018. I hope this continues as we get ready for this next phase.

I have been a small part of what has become a massive movement of everyday people coming together over the last almost 10 years to challenge the status quo of the Democratic establishment and build an alternative independent infrastructure from the Party to get exciting, working-class, community leaders who actually represent us to Congress.

That project, despite many heartbreaking losses along the way, has been enormously successful. Though we still have a long way to go — and I mean a long way to go — we have been a part of fundamentally transforming American politics.

Through recruiting and winning in upset elections since 2018 that no one thought were possible — from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Jamaal Bowman, Cori Bush, & Summer Lee to helping elect the rest of the Squad.

Through working alongside so many others to help introduce the Green New Deal to build solutions that matches the scale of our crises, popularize Medicare for All and refusing corporate PAC money as a bare minimum requirement for political office, and Rejecting AIPAC as a red line for members of conscience in Congress.

Through taking on tens of millions of dollars in opposition spending from the billionaire class and attacks from all sides, especially AIPAC and now Crypto, AI — and continuing to build the infrastructure necessary to recruit and elect working class people to our highest levels of power in spite of it.

Through winning and losing together, in this messy, beautiful, and imperfect progressive movement project, we have built something tens of millions of dollars from AIPAC and the billionaire class can’t erase —

  • We are undergoing a massive generational shift on how the American people feel about the Democratic Party, money in politics, and increasingly on some of the biggest civil and foreign policy issues of our time: abolishing ICE, and ending apartheid and genocide in Palestine. We – as an organization and the candidates we back – have played a pivotal role in laying the groundwork for this shift. Millions of people will never forget where their politicians stood in this moment in history when they had the opportunity to stop US citizens from being murdered by a roque federal agency and a genocide carried out with our tax dollars.
  • We have a bench of federal and local leaders who are accountable to those millions — like the Justice Democrats in Congress
  • We have a bench of organizers, whose seeds like mine were planted in 2016, are ready to step aside and uplift the next generation of organizers who have shown us how much farther we still have to go.
  • There are leaders emerging in every community who are protecting our families and neighbors from ICE; organizing to end the genocide in Gaza; leading their unions or organizing their workplaces against the titans of industry robbing Americans blind.

I’m excited to help others lead, who are ready like I was when I first became ED, to translate our shared anger, impatience, ambitions, and revolutionary optimism into action that can transform our political reality.

I had no plans to become an organizer back in 2015-2016 when I first got involved in politics, let alone an Executive Director of a large grassroots organization at 21. But I am so grateful I did.

As I transition out of this role at JD and in the same spirit we ask for nominations of candidates for Congress – I am calling on everyone who supports our work to help us find our next Executive Director.

We aren’t looking for traditional candidates – I certainly wasn’t one. What we are looking for are morally and politically courageous people who are ready to constantly center solidarity with all people across all backgrounds in the face of the right-wing and corporate interests seeking to divide us against each other. To lead by example, and with humility, love, discipline, and purpose.

In the face of rising fascism, corporate crony politics, and widespread inaction from those elected to lead us, our movement and communities across the country are mobilizing like never before to reset the balance of power for working people.

We would be honored if you considered being a part of and continuing to build the next generation of federal working class leadership with us. Please check out our job description here to see if you or someone you know should apply: http://jdems.us/jobs

Thank you for all of the support over the years, and grateful and excited for what comes next!
