Anthony Clark

For U.S. Congress

I come from a working-class family. Neither of my parents went to college, but both of them taught me the value of hard work, determination and believing in something better for future generations.

Born and raised in Oak Park, Illinois, I am grateful that my parents and grandparents pushed me to pursue my dreams. After high school and six years in the military, I earned a BA in communications, a MA in criminal justice, a MA in special education, a MA in educational leadership, and I am halfway through a PhD in educational leadership. I am proud to be a teacher at the Oak Park and River Forest High School.

My students challenge me every day to be the best I can be. They put issues and concerns into perspective and force me to decide how much I am willing to fight for their futures. One student’s question has stuck with me to this day. It is a big part of the reason I am running to be your next U.S. Representative.

After the daily pledge of allegiance, the student asked me “If we end the pledge with liberty and justice for all, why are there so many people in this country without liberty and denied justice?”

After the daily pledge of allegiance, the student asked me “If we end the pledge with liberty and justice for all, why are there so many people in this country without liberty and denied justice?”

How could I look my student in the eyes, those eyes that have so much hope and aspirations for a future, and tell him that he doesn’t matter, when I know he does. We all do.

I am here because I want to be able to respond to my student when he asks that question. And I honestly want to make a difference so he nor anyone else ever has to ask that question again.

My grandfather once told me, “Service to others is the rent you pay for living on this earth.”

My grandfather once told me, “Service to others is the rent you pay for living on this earth.” I will never forget that, and I will never stop trying to serve others and work for a greater good.

I believe that in a time of partisan politics the best hope for all of us is to come together and celebrate our common dreams. When we do this, we realize that we are all part of the same humanity.

That’s why I founded Suburban Unity Alliance -- to work to end discrimination in our communities and to help fund good causes that may need a helping financial hand. It’s why I led a delegation to the Women’s March in D.C. and why I fought hard for the Welcoming Village ordinance recently passed in Oak Park. We must embrace diversity.

It doesn’t matter your demographic background, we’re all concerned about the economy. We are all concerned about the high levels of violence in Chicago right now. We are all concerned about jobs. We are all concerned about our infrastructure. We are all striving to be better.

But the only way we make anything better is by working and fighting together. My name may be on the next primary ballot, but it will be you who makes winning the election possible. I am here to represent you, to fight for you and to campaign for true liberty and justice for us all.
